George Carlin Philosophy (Part 2): Religion and Consumerism

January 5, 2010 – 7:36 pm

More words of wisdom from Carlin Theatre. WARNING: I apologize for any audio or video burps, but sometimes the audio overlaps and I have to cut it where it ends. Doing so allows for brief flashes of video or audio due to morons interupting George, or camera changes in mid speech. Thanks.

  9. I am sure you are correct. The people that pray the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening count that as two answered prayers. The more educated people are, the harder prayers. Were I to pray every night that I would wake in the morning, opening my eyes would be an answered prayer. The more radicalized a religious person is, the more they “see” answered prayers. Thinking about a person or subject prior to sleep has been proven to help as much as prayer. Are we all connected?

  10. Are we just cattle? Have we been “harvested” before? Religions are supposed to keep us from killing each other, isn’t that ironic? If we all lived in peace, we would all grow fat faster.
Please, nobody blow a gasket. This is no more ridiculous than having more virgins than you can feed or walking around forever on gold street. The virgins would soon be corrupted and all that gold would be worthless without virgins. Hope that adds a laugh for everyone!!!

  11. Lol, no. Ignostic is a separate thing and kind of a newer term. I hate to look kind of silly but Wikipedia breaks it down pretty simply:

en (dot) wikipedia (dot) org / wiki / Ignosticism

IMO the debate between theists and atheists over the existence of ‘god’ is kind of meaningless.

  12. As a dedicated believer in God, I have to say… that I agree with a lot of what he said… Especially the part about the invisible man in the sky…

  16. You know, this guy questions the reality that has been pulled over our eyes; and that is great… But at the same time he is tying in his own personal belief…
If he makes you think differently (because of what he says) its no better than the elite he was talking about.

Its a good eye-opener, but far from the truth; he shows the problem, but has no solution. heck all that’s gonna happen with his theory is that we destroy our planet faster, why do you think they aired this in the first place.

  18. Fascinating motivation: “Life is hard and you need to make up stories”. So she sees through the stories, knows she’s making them up, but believes in them anyhow? It’s an utterly inefficient, bureaucratic belief system and solipsistic mindfuck.

Get rid of these three loons and invite some intellectuals in!

  21. Actually I’d go as far as saying this is the Next Phase of the plan… to make us aware of the crap that’s going on… so that we stop caring… he says he roots for the comet, and so will we! CHAOS!! lets fuck shit up!

And then all we need is “Order out of chaos”, sounds familiar? just look on your one dollar bill.
they try keep one in an extreme, so that when he breaks free, he will go to the opposing extreme. its just another level of control.

Look for the TRUTH not for the Answers.

  22. @GTRrocker666
The 50/50 chance thing in relation to prayer isn’t the only possible approach to the problem. One has to implicate the probabilities for all individuals over the entire human race, you would see that some have their ‘prayers’ answered more then others. Over the entire human race it would be perhaps 50/50 chance, but between individuals this percentage might vary significantly.

  23. Life is hard?? Life is actually very simple and easy for people in this country you spoiled brats. Try living in Africa as a child with no food an how could people believe in a god who could neglect those children but yet he claims to love you? People are generally unimaginative and do not question or research any of their rediculous beliefs. Oh an this 50/50 idiot under me, who gives a shit about statistics in a religous debate. Keep your eye on the ball.

  26. Personally I’m an ignostic. Look it up on Wikipedia. I don’t really know what “God” means in the first place and I’m also apatheistic (meaning I don’t even really care in the long run).

I can’t stand organized religion but I don’t begrudge people personal spirituality. That’s fine as long as it doesn’t become a religion. I formulate my own beliefs according to science and the things that science hasn’t answered I draw my conclusions from philosophy (particularly if it has a scientific basis).
