  2. i think its healthy to have a beleif and when you do i think its good to question it aswell. but to do what atheists do and poke fun at religions and to try and destroy the idea of religion is stupid and pathetic you cant destroy a religion.

  5. The only thing atheism is, is the lack of belief in a god. Nothing more, nothing less. The fact that ‘secular humanists’, ‘brights’ and other groups exist, that also are atheists doesn’t make atheism stand for anything, except the fact I stated above. The lack of belief is not a belief system.

  6. Hey we are social creatures. Lets face it, religion is a man made, socially constructed phenomenon, nothing more.

  7. What else do people who don’t believe in God want to use to justify their behaviors?

By motaloca on Jan 8, 2009

  8. Do atheists believe there is no God? Do atheists attempt to dismantle the belief systems of others? That, in and of itself, is a belief SYSTEM.

  9. Watch a gay atheist convert a room full of atheists into God believers in minutes to illustrate con men of religion -must see !

  10. The constitution of marriage originally was once a religious institution. It has turned into a tradition now and is considered a social norm. No longer religious.

  16. HypoMix is right. It is roughly the same thing as, let’s say, celebrating Christmas as an atheist. Nowadays christmas is more about bringing the family togehter and making your kids happy, rather than celebrating the birth of Christ.
Same goes for marriage, I presume. It’s about tying two lovers together, or setting a starting point for a family.
So… not every ritual or tradition that has a religious history comes with a religious connotation today, eh?

  18. haha. “Languages are, not only, results of religion or Spiritual belief”. You are quite misinformed…embarrassingly so. How could people craft the tenets of their religions, communicate their myths, proliferate their inherently illogical rituals, without having language as a means to disseminate them? Use some common sense. Religion was a product of language, an indirect result of communication. Some believed (and read the God Delusion for this) that religion had early survival value.

    By joshman07 on Jan 8, 2009

  19. It is impossible for language to have stemmed from religion. It is impossible to communicate with another human without some form of lanuage, be it drawings, sign language or speaking. If one man beleives something but cannot communicate it so that others may beleive in it aswell, then there is no religion. just because one person beleives something doesnt make it a religion. do you see where i am going? 20. unless it was a civil ceremony?
not every one marries in a church.
also I don’t think there is anything wrong with a cultural tradition so long as you don’t take it as serious.

By HypoMix on Jan 8, 2009

  21. Great rebuttal! I’ll have to buy some of your books, if you ever get published. They’ll be short, to the point and devoid of substance!

By motaloca on Jan 8, 2009

  22. Oddly enough, he mentions th fact that he’s married on several occassions, a largely religious institution.

By motaloca on Jan 8, 2009

  23. this guys hilarious, but at the same time hes right, think about it every war was in some way about religion.

  25. Language itself, as used by people, can create their own belief systems. Languages are, not only, results of religion or Spiritual belief, but they also foment both negative and positive foundations in EVERY culture.

By motaloca on Jan 8, 2009
